Morning, Day 1: Flying Cow Ranch + Muslim-Friendly Certified Lunch
Located in Tongxiao, Miaoli, Flying Cow Ranch is the first comprehensive leisure farm in Taiwan. It has a unique rural landscape with large green pastures, herds of dairy cows and farm structures. The culinary and agricultural educational experiences offered by the ranch combine concepts of production, life and ecology. Activities include milking and calf feeding; ice cream and cake making incorporate dairy products produced by the ranch for a rich experience.
Flying Cow Ranch obtained Muslim-friendly certification for its restaurant and hospitality in 2020, so Muslim tourists can enjoy with confidence the park's specialty milk pots and other fresh dairy products.
Afternoon, Day 1: Take Photos at Dongli Jiafeng
Dongli Jiafeng is a three-courtyard old house located in Yuanli, Miaoli. It is a well-preserved building constructed of red brick and cochin ceramics. Since being restored following traditional methods, its exquisite architectural style has been displayed to the public as a level-three Miaoli County historical site. Dongli Jiafeng brings together historical culture, tourism and hospitality by providing guided tours, food service and lodging. A variety of historical costumes are also available for guests to wear while taking pictures. Stroll among the century-old complex to feel traditional charm and witness Taiwan's historical trajectory.
In addition to providing an immersive historical experience, Dongli Jiafeng also sells handmade cakes and offers old-fashioned rice harvest and chef's table meals.
Midday, Day 2: Old Mountain Line Rail Bike
The Old Mountain Line Railway was built during the Japanese colonial period for the purpose of transporting supplies. This railway was a great challenge to construction technology when it was built a hundred years ago, as it involved laying track for the largest slope and curve of any railway in Taiwan. The railway eventually ceased operating. In order to preserve and revive this historical and cultural site, the Old Mountain Line Rail Bike, the first in Taiwan, was created. Through tourism revitalization and repurposing, the Old Mountain Line Rail Bike allows tourists to experience railway technology and the natural and cultural landscape along its routes.
The Old Mountain Line Rail Bike currently has three routes, separately departing from Shengxing Station and Longteng Station. The routes allow visitors to experience the Yutengping Railway Bridge, the remains of the Longteng Bridge, the Liyutan Reservoir and several special tunnels with light projections.
Midday, Day 2: Shopping at Shengxing Station Old Street
Shengxing Station is one of the stations on the old Shanxian Railway. In the past, it was a transportation hub, which is the origin of the settlement’s development. After the railway ceased operating, Shengxing transitioned to tourism. The station facilities were converted into the Old Shanxian Tourism Service Center and the Shiliufen Cultural Center. Dormitories built here during the Japanese occupation have been renovated and reopened to the public, allowing visitors to experience their historic presence.
The old street, which is dominated by wooden buildings, stretches out from the station. There are many Hakka restaurants, specialty foods and local craft shops, which continue the lively atmosphere of the past. Visitors are invited to experience the enthusiasm and simplicity of this mountain town.

Sanyi, Miaoli, an internationally certified Cittaslow Slow City, has beautiful and relaxing scenery and is a major woodcarving town. Many of the woodcarving shops across Sanyi have been passed down for years. Sanyi Duck Box Treasure was founded in 1963. It began by carving Buddha statues, and later switched to producing human and animal sculptures, providing duck-shaped puppets for the European and American markets. In recent years, it was transformed into a tourism factory that provides hand-made painted wood carving classes.
