Flower Fields around Tongluo Railway Station
Tongluo, Miaoli is the main chrysanthemum growing area in Taiwan. Peak production season begins in November every year. The chrysanthemum fields gradually burst into bloom with fresh snow-white flowers and sunny golden blossoms. The two colors of chrysanthemums are interwoven into an endless floral spread that blankets Jiuhu, Zhangshu and Chaoyang villages. When you depart from Tongluo Railway Station, you can see the fields of chrysanthemums in full bloom along the road. Train fans should not miss the seasonal beauty of railway and flowers.

A Pleasant Lunchtime Stroll Around Tongluo Township
Tongluo, which was once a camphor-producing settlement, still retains its Japanese-style buildings, distinctive local businesses and old shops, all well worth exploring.

Located next to the Tongluo Railway Station, Chongguang Clinic is a wooden building that combines Chinese, Western and Japanese styles. It was once a well-known clinic in Tongluo Township. Because it is well preserved, it has been used as a film site by the internationally renowned director Hou Hsiao-hsien. It is now a county-designated historic building and you need to apply for permission to venture within, though views of the exterior alone make it worth visiting.

Along the way, you can see the 200-year-old Tongluo Tianhou Temple, and stroll the nearby old street. Here, there are stone-cutting shops that still adhere to traditional practices and the Tongluo police office built during the period of Japanese rule. All of these constructions carry memories of life in this area. And don’t forget to explore the streets to find local Hakka delicacies!
