Renhe Trail and Tea Fragrance Trail
Renhe Trail is located near Hukou Old Street in Hsinchu. It is 967 meters long and is paved with stone steps, making it a gentle, easy-to-walk trail suitable for adults and children. During tung blossom season in April and May, the snow-white tung trees along both sides of Renhe Trail are in full bloom. The falling petals cover the mountains and forests as if a blanket of snow, creating a romantic and beautiful floral landscape.

Tea Fragrance Trail can be reached from Renhe Trail. It is 2.3 kilometers-long hidden trail just completed at the end of 2023. It was formerly a tank training base but has now been transformed into a gentle trail surrounded by vast tea plantations. There are maps throughout the area so travelers can experience the joys of exploring the area independently.

The relaxing atmosphere of Renhe Trail and Tea Fragrance Trail brings many hiking and photography enthusiasts. Apart from admiring the beauty of the tung flowers, visitors can whiff the elegant aromas of the tea plantations.

Stroll Hukou Old Street (Sanyuan Temple, Old Hukou Catholic Church, Fuxing Theater)
The Hukou area was formerly known as “Dawokou.” Due to its location at the junction of the plains and mountains, it developed as a center of trade. During the Qing era and the period of Japanese rule, Hukou prospered with the construction of railways. Hukou Old Street is 300 meters long from the Catholic Church rebuilt at the site of the old train station to the county historic site Sanyuan Temple at its end. The buildings on both sides of the 10-meter-wide street are constructed with red brick. The buildings have archway facades that are Roman Baroque in style and deep interiors, which are a feature of Minnan-style housing. Hukou is the most intact old street in Taiwan.

Most of the houses on the street are still inhabited by locals. The exterior of the old Fuxing Theater has been retained, while the interior has been converted into a Hakka restaurant. Art studios, cafes, craft shops and other stores can also be found along the old street. The classic Hong Kongese ghost movie Mr. Vampire was filmed in this quaint neighborhood. When visiting Hukou Old Street, strolling beneath the arched facades will transport you through time and space to an atmosphere of the past.
