The Saisiyat people living in Batbato'an belonged to the Amis during the Japanese occupation period. Amis means "northern land" in the Saisiyat language.
Tribal characteristics-Moon Rock
Moon Rock is a giant's kettle formed by the erosion of the Danan River, a branch of the Penglai River.
The great number of giant's kettles makes this place look like the surface of the moon. Therefore, it is called "Moon Rock".

It takes a great effort to grow the popular Taiwan Pleione. Batbato´an is one of the very few production areas for Taiwan Pleione.
