Siyuan Pass is located at the borderline between Taichung and Yilan, being the northernmost territory under the supervision of the Tri-Mountain National Scenic Area Headquarters. It is also the watershed of Lanyang River and Dajia River. As it is located at the saddle, visitors can overlook the entire Lanyang River Valley there. The cloud seas here change from time to time, giving people kaleidoscopic sceneries. It is also an ideal place for snow watching. When visitors hike along the trail to the pass, they can see green maples and cherry blossoms blooming wildly on both sides during the winter. The scene is stunning. Located at an altitude of 1,948m above sea level, it always snows there.
The magnificent scenes of silvery white snowflakes dancing around attract many visitors. Driving from the Yilan branch of the Central Cross-island Highway (Provincial Highway 7 A), visitors can see the deep valleys and steep slopes of the Lanyang River. However, after passing Siyuan Pass, the valleys become gradual and broad. The pastoral scenes of cabbage fields on both sides of the road are really nice. Situated in the valleys, green trees grow wild on all sides, constituting a marvelous spring scene. Visitors may have the feeling of wandering in paradise when they come here. On both sides of Siyuan Pass are Taroko National Park and Shei Pa National Park. All the wild plants and animals there are protected by National Park Law. Therefore, Siyuan Pass is also regarded as an important ecological corridor, shouldering the responsibilities of the migration and exchange of wild plants and animals on both sides of it. At Siyuan Pass, the four seasons are distinguishable. With magnificent landscapes, maple leaves pave the ground during the autumn. In winter, snow dances around. In spring and autumn, flowers bloom wildly at Siyuan Pass, with birds chirping happily. Filled with life force, the pass is filled with infinite energy.
