Songboling is on the north bank of the Zhuoshui River and the high ground of Baguashan Cliff, with an excellent strategic advantage of commanding heights. Therefore, the Ministry of National Defense established a military stronghold to defend the Zhuoshui River and Changhua Plain in the early years. Later, the military no longer used more than 20 positions and command posts for defense. The government replanned seven pillboxes near Shoutian Temple and renovated them into the "Qixing Army Base Park. The former strict military fortress has become one of the most distinctive attractions in the Baguashan Scenic Area.
Qixing Army Base Park
The Army Base Park is a comprehensive recreational and educational facility.
To develop local tourism, the government replanned the Qixing Army Base Park and color drawing based on the concepts of "Five Phases" and "Seven Stars" and set up tourist service facilities such as observation decks, rest plazas, trails, and public toilets. Also, they transferred decommissioned tanks and artillery weapons from the Ministry of National Defense and placed them next to the pillboxes for display and explanation.
Qixing Army Base Park
The name of the Qixing (Seven-star) Army Base Park comes from Shoutian Temple, the religious center of Songboling.
The main deity of the Shoutian Temple is Xuantian Shangdi, the main god of the north. The Big Dipper and the North Star are both its representative constellations. The seven bunkers adjacent to Shoutian Temple are in a similar position to the Big Dipper, so named the bunkers after the seven stars: Yaoguang, Kaiyang, Yuheng, Tianquan, Tianxuan, Tianji, and Tianshu, and are matched with white, green, yellow, black, red, gray and purple. Finally, the group of pillboxes is named "Qixing Army Base Park."

Explore the fusion scenery of pillboxes and tea plantations by family-friendly bike riding.
When looking around, the pillboxes stand upright in the green tea plantations. Relaxing with a cup of tea while climbing the observation deck is better. You can overlook the Zhuoshui River and the Changhua Plain when the weather is good. Surrounded by tea plantations, pineapple fields, and ginger fields, the pillboxes are full of greenery. During the tea-processing period, you can also smell the aroma of tea. It is suitable for family-friendly fun, such as riding a bicycle to take a trip to explore the pillboxes.
