Basianshan National Forest Recreation Area is on the alluvial plateau where the Jiabao River meets the Shiwen River. It was a logging site during the Japanese occupation period. It is one of Taiwan's three largest forest sites, along with Taiping Mountain in Yilan and Alishan in Chiayi. Its main targets are cypress, Luanta fir, and hemlock. After logging stopped in the 1980s, it gradually became a leisure tourism site. The area is rich in ecology, beautiful in forest appearance, and has many trails to choose from. There is also a water facility, a forest classroom, and a waterfall viewing deck, suitable for the whole family to enjoy forest bathing together.

The central peak of the Basianshan has an elevation of 2366 meters and has experienced 48 years of glorious forestry time. The completely dismantled former forest railway, left behind a precious emerald green forest, is the most primitive natural amusement area in central Taiwan today. Several planning trails within the park, including the Teana Trail, built along the Shiwen River; the Bamboo Forest Trail, featuring Makino and Moso bamboo; and the Cherry Blossom Forest Trail, is planted with Taiwan cherry blossoms. The cherry blossoms bloom in the mountains yearly from January to February, attracting bees, butterflies, and birds. It attains two objectives for people: to enjoy the cherry blossoms and birds, and it is the best choice for going out in spring.
The recreation spot for holidays will make you experience the beautiful scenery of the forest in the morning and evening.
In the hot summer, the Basianshan National Forest Recreation Area has a water area to cool off the heat. Divert the abundant water source of Shiwenxi into five pools and allow tourists to sit at the tea pavilion and soak their feet or play in the water, thus injecting a coolness into summer. The "Basian Villas" in the park also provide passenger accommodation services. Living in an independent cabin built of cypress, nanmu, and natural Chinese fir, you can fully enjoy the beautiful forest and natural ecology at dawn and dusk.
