Among the temples on Lion’s Head Mountain, Yuanguang Temple is one of the highest. Located near the juncture of Hsinchu County and Miaoli County, it was built from a natural rock cave. Originally named Shihyen Cave, it was founded by Monk Pujie in 1895 and was one of the founding temples of Lion’s Head Mountain.
It was gradually reconstructed to its present form. The temple houses Gautama Buddha, Guanyin and other josses. Once you pass Yuanguang Temple, you will be close to the peak of Lion’s Head Mountain and you will find a pavilion called “Moon Watching Pavilion” there.
As this is the border between Hsinchu and Miaoli counties, there is a prominent border monument here. Most hikers rest here to enjoy the breeze. Now we enter Miaoli County and enjoy the beauty of Lion’s Head Mountain.
