The old story of a Hakka tea house
Xiexin Tea House is a restaurant commissioned by Tri-mountain National Scenic Area Headquarters. It was the former dormitory for teachers of Shishan Elementary School and was later converted into a Hakka-style tea house by combining the the traditional design of slanted roof with the concept of “When the mad mind stops, that very stopping is Bodhi” (The Shurangama Sutra).
Welcoming visitors with its new outlook, the elegant tea house architecture blends in seamlessly with its surroundings, providing a nice spot to rest both body and mind.
Taste the local Hakka delicacies
In addition to the quaint Hakka decoration, Xiexin Tea House also provides individual set meals, Hakka vegetarian dishes and group meals.
The signature dish one cannot miss is the Tung flower set meal. It is served in a retro ceramic pot with a tung flower design and comes with various dishes, including high mountain vegetables, fried shredded pork with cuttlefish and braised pork with rice.
On a quiet afternoon, you can take a stroll on the Liouliao Trail or Tengping Trail. If you are tired, you can sit at the outdoor dining area and enjoy a pot of cold-brewed oriental beauty tea and handmade Hakka mochi.
Admiring the mountain views while having a good rest during the trip is certainly lovely. If you don’t wish to part with local Hakka delicacies, you can bring candied fruits and tea leaves home with you.
The private attraction for seeing tung flowers
Near the Xiexin Tea House are several century-old tung trees, which have become a must-see for tung flower lovers during the blooming season in April and May. To avoid the large crowds during holidays, tourists are advised to visit during weekdays and enjoy the rare ease and tranquility of the place.
