Jiayang Alluvial Fan was originally inhabited by the Atayal tribe of Jiayang. Later, due to the construction of the Deji Reservoir, the area was classified as a water catchment area not suitable for habitation, and the tribe moved their families to the opposite slope, which was renamed as the “Xinjiayang Tribal Village (Yulu)”. During the Japanese colonial period, the Atayal warriors were collectively killed by the Japanese here, so it is also known as the “Devil's Island”.
