Saisiat tribe's biennial Sacrifice to the Short Spirits
The rich cultural and lifestyle resources of the Hakka people and aboriginal tribes are among the most unique attraction here. The only first-class national historic site in the Hsinchu area is Beipu's Jinguangfu Official Residence. This building is witness to the development of the inner mountain area during the late Cing Dynasty. Now more than 160 years old, it represents the spirit of cooperation between the Taiwanese (Southern Fujianese) and Hakka people in developing this land. Among the main tourist attractions that remain today are the Beipu's Old Street, Tianshuei Hall, Cihtian Temple, and Jiang Ancestral Shrine. In addition, the scattered Hakka settlements in the area clearly demonstrate the hardworking and simple characters that the Hakka people have inherited from their ancestors in China.
