The Tri-Mountain National Scenic Area encompasses three scenic areas: (1) Lion's Head Mountain, (2) Lishan, and (3) Mt.Bagua , across five counties in northern and central Taiwan; namely, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou Counties. With a total area of approximately 77,521 hectares, this National Scenic Area is blessed with enchanting landscapes of mountains, reservoirs and lakes, distinctive natural ecological resources, rich reserves of cultural and historical artifacts of the aboriginal,Taiwanese (Southern Fujianese) and Hakka peoples, and an abundant variety of local agricultural products. The well known tourist routes in the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli areas together with the ridges of the Central Mountain Range offer a wide variety of urban, rural and mountain landscapes with the added benefit of convenient transportation. All of these aspects have made this scenic area a prime destination for tourists.
Based on the richness of these resources, the Tri-Mountain National Scenic Area Administration has adopted the "Green Silicon Island" concept in planning and constructing public and leisure facilities with the aim of improving the tourism environment and bringing it into conformity with international standards. The final goal of this plan is to develop the National Scenic Area into a lively, green, and sustainable international tourist attraction that will speed up the fulfillment of the government's "Doubling Tourist Arrivals Plan."
